Thaipusam

The festival is celebrated in honour of Lord Subramaniam (also known as Lord Murugan), who represents virtue, youth and power, and is the destroyer of evil. The festival generally lasts for 2 days. The Thaipusam ceremony starts in the early hours of the morning. The first batch of devotees carries milk pots and wooden kavadis. Some pierce their tongues with skewers and carry a wooden kavadi decorated with flowers and peacock feathers balanced on their shoulders. Other devotees carry spiked kavadis that require elaborate preparation. Indeed, for devotees, Thaipusam is often the climax of an entire month spent in spiritual preparation with a strict vegetarian diet.

Thaipusam It is mainly observed in countries where there is a significant presence of Tamil community such as Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Mauritius Singapore, South Africa, Thailand The word Thaipusam is a combination of the name of the month, Thai, and the name of a star, Pusam. This particular star is at its highest point during the festival. The festival commemorates the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan a Vel "spear" so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman. There is a misconception among people that Thaipusam marks Murugan's birthday

This festival was created during one of the battles between the Asuras (or to be more specific Soorapadman) and the Devas. At one point, the latter were defeated several times by the former. The Devas were unable to resist the onslaught of the Asura forces. In despair, they approached Shiva and entreated to give them an able leader under whose heroic leadership they might obtain victory over the Asuras. They surrendered themselves completely and prayed to Shiva. Shiva granted their request by creating the mighty warrior, Skanda, out of his own power or Achintya Shakti. He at once assumed leadership of the celestial forces, inspired them and defeated the Asura forces and to recognise that day the people created the festival, Thaipusam.

According to Skanda Puranam, the legend of Murugan, and Thirupugal which are divine verses on Murugan, adhere to Shaivam principles. Murugan is the embodiment of Shiva's light and wisdom and devotees pray to him to overcome the obstacles they face, as He is the divine vanquisher of evil. The motive of Thaipusam festival is to pray to God to receive his grace so that bad traits are destroyed

Thaipusam celebrations take place in USA, Mauritius, Malaysia and Singapore. It is a public holiday in several states in Malaysia. In Malaysia, the temple at Batu Caves, George Town, Penang , often attracts over one million devotees and tens of thousands of tourists. In Singapore, Hindu devotees start their procession at the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple in the early morning, carrying milk pots as offerings or attaching "kavadis" and spikes pierced on their body. The procession travels for 4 kilometres before finishing at Tank Road, Sri Thendayuthapani Temple. In USA Concord Shiva Murugan Temple celbrates the Thaipoosam preceded by walk. Some people walk more than 46 miles from Fremont, California and some walk 21 miles from San Ramon, California to Concord and most walk 7 miles from Walden park, Walnut Creek to Concord. Over 2000 people participated in the walk for last several years.

Gong Xi Fa Cai (恭喜发财)

Year’s most awaited festival is Gong Xi Fa Cai or Chinese New Year,  is an important traditional Chinese holiday. It is also known as the Gong Xi Fa Cai. Chinese people greet one another with “gung hey fat choi” (Cantonese) or “gong xi fa cai” (Mandarin),” which literally means, “Wishing you a financially prosperous year.”Another greeting is, “sun leen fai lok (Cantonese) or “xin nian kuai le” (Mandarin), which simply means, “Happy New Year.”

One of the most iconic traditions of Chinese New Year is the giving of red envelopes stuffed with currency given from the older generation to the younger ones. When giving and receiving a red envelope, both parties may speak words of blessings to each another, usually in the form of four-word Chinese idioms. The spirit of giving can be preserved in ways other than passing out cash too. Food associated with Chinese New Year, such as mandarin oranges, dried fruit and candy with bright foil, can be wrapped in small bunches and given to family, friends and co-workers to wish them happiness and blessings in the coming year.

There are many foods traditionally associated with Chinese New Year, and it may be fun–and delicious–to have some around this time of year. In northern China, people eat dumplings or “jiao zi,” the shape of which resembles a gold ignot,a form of currency used in ancient China. In the south, people eat a sticky rice pudding called “nian gao,” the name which sounds like the words “higher year.”  Other foods eaten at Chinese New Year that carry meaning are noodles (representing longevity) and fish (representing abundance).

Many traditional Chinese will buy a complete set of new clothes to wear on the first day of New Year. Wearing new clothes symbolizes a fresh and new start. Wearing red–the favourite color of Chinese tradition–is another way to be festive.

Traditional Lion Dance program is another important part of this festival…..the interesting thing is from kids and young to old aged people all love the traditional lion dance performance show held during Gong Xi Fa Cai Festival....

Tamarind Spring

Tamarind Springs is located inside a jungle like area .An exotic dining experience! Tamarind Springs serves Indochinese Cuisine so you will be expecting Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand cuisine in their menu. Yare surrounded by greens a very impressive atmosphere to have your meals. Tamarind Spring is located next to the Royal Club Selangor Golf Course. You have to be amazed with the landscape and design of this restaurant. Pretty exquisite and you definitely feel relaxed here. The lighting here is very dim and romantic .a perfect getaway from the hustle city I must say. A natural getaway into a visual and sensory feast, lush sensuous appeal, Buddhism decoration which brings peace, tranquility and restores soul into yourself. So it was a great idea to celebrate the New Year far from the city in a quiet & tranquil environment.
After FIRST step in to the TAMARIND front it was surprising to find a quite long walk away along to the restaurant which was decorated by small land both side of the way in the midst of the jungle, while keep walking found Buddhist sculpture and statues  sides of the walk way which was really spectacular and amazing.

After reach to the restaurant I was charmed by the decoration, I found it’s totally made with wood, wooden floor and wooden ceiling was pretty much impressive, all over the restaurant is decorated with Buddhist sculpture and waterfalls and lamp, we walk down through a wooden stair case to tamarind’s other cuisine , which is located right beside down of the hill ,  it was charming to see the dining hall is decorated with white table and candle light setting , I really got excited to have this romantic atmosphere in the evening .

From our table just saw the place is surrounded by big palm trees, jungle and hills, and saw a big swimming pool midst of the jungle, after ordering our menu, we walk through the pool and feel the windy night bit cold and the place is surrounded by hills and big trees , so tranquility all around.

We just had our dinner chef’s special dishes which tastes delicious in candle light, after had our dinner we spend more time to this breathtaking place.
